School Library Goals and Objectives

Goals of the Library Program:
The library will be an integral part of the school community by providing open, equitable access to a wide variety of materials that support the curricula while guiding, motivating, and inspiring students to become lifelong readers and effective users of 21st century technology. Because information literacy is a key ingredient to success throughout a student's lifetime, the library will engage students in multiple information literacies, including visual, textual, digital and technological. Furthermore, the library will augment classroom teaching by providing the information resources and technology needed for the development of teaching strategies to enhance student learning.
Goals of the Librarian:
I will seek to become the information literacy expert on my campus by making a lasting dedication to my own literacy education. I will create a welcoming and nurturing environment where 21st century learners can gain an understanding of how to locate, create, and apply knowledge while connecting with the diverse ideas and beliefs of our world. In addition, I will actively contribute to student achievement by collaborating with teachers to define and integrate information skills into the curriculum, while also working with parents and other stakeholders to promote the library program throughout the community.

Goals of the Collection:
The library collection will provide diverse educational, professional, and recreational resources and services for all members of the school community, including students, staff, faculty, and parents. Content will support the curriculum of the school by connecting students and faculty to information in a variety of formats that will help them achieve educational excellence. The collection will also support the development of a lifelong love of reading by including extensive fiction and nonfiction titles, in a wide range of reading levels and with multiple language options to ensure the availability of appropriate reading material for all members of the school community.
